- I left London after sixteen years when the congestion charge was introduced. I now live a pleasantly uncongested life with Spouse and Sprog halfway up a mountain in the French Pyrenees. Yes, it's true, France is another country...but the country-side is another planet! The adjustments are ongoing, sometimes painful, often interesting. I have written a novel (edgy, commercial fiction for women, if anyone's interested!) and have a second one under construction. Sounds like a plan!
In the Netherlands I don't expect any kids to come to the door, so I won't have any candy at all. I may still gorge myself on chocolate though.
We celebrated Halloween here in Seoul on Saturday night at an expat-type party, where most of us gorged ourselves on beer and Mexican food - Hardly typical Halloween fare. We then followed it up with a snack of roasted silkworm larvae. I'm pretty sure I would never have eaten them if I hadn't already drunk all that beer, though....
It's not a bit deal here in Melbourne either, but we made a gingerbread house that was supposed to be scary but didn't matter that it wasn't because it was delicious
Keith! It was! It was great. I sent Sprog out, then ate all his sweets when he came back. He doesn't like licorice, but I love it. There must have been someone in the village who had purchased a half ton of the stuff. Hoorah!

Glad to hear you were getting stuck in to the goodies - if the kids eat too much they'll just make themselves sick. We are only behaving in a responsible motherly way.
